Rules / Schedule

Here are the playing rules for all games for CityLeague Golf.

I'm sure a few more will pop up but this it for now:

  • All play is based on net scoring of team and individual. Season winners will be determined by the team with the lowest points.
  • This is "hit and giggle" golf...however we do play by the rules of golf. Try to follow them as much as possible.
  • If you swing at the ball with the intent to hit it...that is one stroke - count it.
  • Summer rules unless posted by course.
  • Don't ground clubs in sand traps or hazards.
  • Keep pace with the group in front of you!
  • Lost ball is one stroke. Don't go back to the tee, just drop in approximate area and play on.
  • If any issues arise, play on and bring them up with the commissioner after your round.
  • Water Hazards:
    • Red stakes - you must drop within 2 club lengths of entry point.
    • Yellow stakes - you can do same, you can go back to any point on line of flight of ball and drop or you can play from where it lies. If you play from where it lies, there is no penalty stroke, all other options require a 1 stroke penalty.
  • Play "ready golf" when at all possible.
  • Each player must have their own set of clubs.
  • When computing net scores per hole we use the men's handicaps ratings on the scorecards. For example, if you are an 11 handicap in league for 9 holes, you'll get 1 stroke on all nine holes plus 1 stroke on the #1 handicap hole and 1 stroke on the #3 handicap hole.

Qualifying

will be based on the first 2 weeks of play. If you do not have an official handicap, your score minus the par for that nine holes will be your handicap...unless we know different. Handicaps will continue to be adjusted as appropriate throughout the season.

Week 1 - Stableford

Play in a group of 4. Record the stableford score for each player based on their handicap index. Each team will use the best score from each hole of the foursome. (Details on how to score will be shared prior to play.)

Week 2 - 2 Low Nets

We will take the 2 lowest net scores of your foursome each hole and combine them to make one score.

Week 3 - 4 Person Best Ball

We will take the lowest net score per team of 4 per hole.

Week 4 - 2 Person Best Ball

You will split up into 2-two person teams. You'll stay together in your group of four, unless you want to split up. Each team of two will use their best net ball per hole to combine with the best net ball per hole of their "other team".

Week 5 - Modified 4 Person Scramble

All four players tee off. Proceed to best positioned ball off the tee. All members will play their OWN ball from spot completely through the hole. You will get 1/2 your normal handicap. An odd handicap (i.e. 11, 15, etc.), rounds down. We use the best net ball per hole.

Week 6 - Match Play

You will be paired up head to head against another player from another team with a similar handicap if at all possible. This is match play scoring, all you have to do is win holes (like skins). It doesn't matter what overall score you shoot. Win your match =3pts for your team, halve your match =5pts for your team, lose your match =7pts for your team. Minimum points available is 12, maximum is 28. This is a big night!

Week 7 - 4 Clubs

You can only have 4 golf clubs in your bag when you tee off. We don't care which ones they are. A putter is a golf club...duh!

Week 8 - 2 Person Alternate Shot

Again you will split up into 2-two person teams. Two balls in play per team.

Teammates will tee off, then player B hits As tee shot and vice versa and so on until the ball is in the hole. If player A hits into a hazard or out of bounds, then player B takes the next shot. Try to be aware of how many strokes each ball hasyou may be able to just pick one of them up. I would recommend using two different balls per team ie: a TaylorMade and a Maxfli, its easier to keep track of how many strokes each one has. Add the two handicaps and divide by 2 to get a team handicap. A 3 and an 12 would be 15 divided by 2 for a team handicap of 7 (we round down in CityLeague Golf).

Scoring is the net ball from the two teams. If you only have one player you will play with 1/2 your handicap.

Week 9 - Modified Pinky

Each team will be issued a "pink" ball. Each player will be required to play at least 2 holes with the pink ball. Somebody will have to play it a third hole, so that your team gets a nine hole score for the pink ball. IF YOU LOSE THE PINK BALL on any hole, you will automatically record double par for that hole, NET! After you lose the pink ball, you must continue to play as if you still had it and stay in your rotation of who plays the pink ball on each hole, just use another ball. Your team must have a nine hole score for the pink ball. If you lose it again it's another double par net and so on...

The Other Three Players: They play the Modified Scramble game we played in week 7. All tee off, select the best drive and pick up the other two balls and move them to the location of the best drive. All play your own ball from here until your ball is holed.

Option: The pink ball could be used as the best drive, thus the other three balls could be moved to the spot of the pink ball drive and played from there. THE PINK BALL CANNOT BE MOVED TO ANOTHER BALLS LOCATION. YOU HIT IT 10 FEET OFF THE TEE AND YOU PLAY FROM THERE!

Scoring: You'll have a pink ball net score and a modified scramble score combined for your team score.

Week 10 - Match Play

You will be paired up head to head against another player from another team with a similar handicap if at all possible. This is match play scoring, all you have to do is win holes (like skins). It doesn't matter what overall score you shoot. Win your match =3pts for your team, halve your match =5pts for your team, lose your match =7pts for your team. Minimum pts available is 12, maximum is 28. This is a big night!
